The Great Gatsby

“Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone just remember that all the people in the worlds haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.” (Page 1)

Nick is the person talking. He is telling us readers what his father told him about how you shouldn’t judge people because they may not have everything you have or you don’t know what conditions their living in. This quote really stuck out to me not only because it was one of the first things I read but it’s a statement that is true to all of us.

“Tom’s got some woman in New York. She might have the decency not to telephone him at dinner time.” (Page 15)

In this quote Miss Baker is telling Nick about Tom’s mistress. To me this quote stuck out because I like drama filled books. From reading this you can already tell that there is going to be trouble especially because it’s known to a lot of people. This quote really made me want to keep reading.

I’m really enjoying what I’m reading so far. The Great Gatsby really seem like it will be a great book. I enjoy the narration from Nick. To me it’s kind of funny because in some instances it just seems like Nick is just there for no reason. I also don’t understand why Daisy is still with Tom if he’s cheating. Obviously she’s a fool, well she stated, “the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
